Aith is a cotton turtle-neck Guernsey inspired by the working knitwear worn by British fishermen in the late 18th and 19th centuries. Designed as a midweight layer, this 710g jumper combines heritage stitch patterns with a traditional shape.
Knitted from 100% cotton, Aith features a regular silhouette with dropped shoulders and a softly structured roll neck finished in a 2x2 rib. The front and back panels are richly textured with traditional cable formations, each carrying meaning drawn from maritime life. Rope-like cables reference strength and the bond between fisherman and vessel, moss stitch symbolises growth and abundance, while ladder stitch reflects both life’s stages and the practical ladders used at sea. The sleeves are finished in moss stitch to balance texture and wearability.
A garter stitch welt with 2x2 rib detailing takes inspiration from broken waves along the shoreline, with subtle side hem slits added for ease of movement. Ribbed cuffs complete the piece, giving structure without restriction.
Aith is a robust yet breathable cotton knit that works equally well layered over a fine merino knit, or lightweight layer. A considered, long-lasting jumper rooted in craft and function.
