Midweight 100% Extra Fine Merino Wool Gilet

Cooler days call for an extra layer. The Luciano gilet is knitted from a premium Italian 100% extra fine merino wool sourced from Filivivi (Estd. 1817), bringing natural warmth and breathability without the bulk of a full jacket. At 511 grams, it has a reassuring midweight feel that works comfortably over fine knitwear or beneath a coat.

Knitted in a stable full Milano structure, the fabric has a smooth, substantial handle and holds its shape well through regular wear. A full zip front, high tubular rib collar and neat tubular trims give the gilet a clean finish, while two welt pockets keep the silhouette practical and understated.

An easy layer that moves between office days, weekends and time outdoors.

Style Summary

  • Natural Warmth: Extra fine merino wool provides effective insulation while remaining breathable, making the Luciano useful through changing temperatures.
  • Premium Italian Yarn: Knitted from 100% extra fine merino wool sourced from Filivivi (Estd. 1817) in Italy for a soft, fine handle and natural performance.
  • Double-Thickness Structure: The full Milano knit creates a substantial, stable fabric with greater body than a lightweight single-knit layer.
  • Easy Layering: The sleeveless construction adds warmth around the core without restricting the arms, sitting comfortably over a jumper or beneath a jacket.
  • Shape and Stability: Milano construction and tubular trims help the garment retain a clean silhouette through repeated wear.
  • Italian-Made Galvanised Zip: The full-length premium Italian-made zip provides a durable, refined fastening and allows the jacket to be worn open or closed depending on the temperature.
  • Everyday Practicality: A full zip makes it easy to put on, remove and adjust as temperatures change, while two welt pockets add useful storage.
  • Outdoor Versatility: Warm yet breathable merino makes the gilet well suited to walks, travel and other cooler days spent outdoors.
  • Made to Last: Natural merino wool, substantial construction and a timeless navy colour make this a considered piece for regular wear and gifting.

Merino Wool Yarn

Exceptionally fine and naturally intelligent, merino wool is prized for its ability to regulate temperature while remaining soft against the skin. Designed by nature to adapt, it provides warmth in cooler conditions and breathability when temperatures rise.

We source our chunky merino from Peru and our extrafine and superfine merino is supplied by industry favourites Zegna Baruffa (Est. 1850), Papi Fabio (Est. 1890) and Lanerossi (Est. 1817).

Made in our Navsari Factory

This piece is made by skilled knitters in our family-owned factory in Navsari, using the same standards and oversight as our British production. As the home town of the Paul James family, Navsari has long been central to our expertise in fine knitwear.

By owning and operating the factory ourselves, we retain full control over quality and materials, resulting in well-made knitwear designed to last and priced fairly, straight from the factory floor.
