75% Lambswool 25% Silk Roll Neck Jumper

Named after the historic Cornish town of Helston, known in Cornish as Hellys, a name commonly associated with the idea of an old court or hall, the Helston draws on Cornwall’s maritime heritage for its distinctive knitted details.  Crafted from a premium Italian-spun blend of 75% lambswool and 25% silk from Papi Fabio (estd. 1850), it combines the natural warmth and softness of fine wool with silk neps scattered throughout the yarn. These contrasting flecks give every colour a beautifully nuanced, speckled appearance and a timeless heritage character.

The midweight jumper is knitted in single jersey to keep the yarn's character clearly visible. Fisherman-inspired detailing runs along the raglan armholes in garter and selective knitting, forming a traditional “ladder of life” motif that represents the stages, trials and triumphs of a sailor’s life, as well as the ladders used aboard boats. A substantial roll neck provides warmth, while the cuffs and hem combine rolled edges, garter stitch and ribs, with detailing inspired by broken waves along the shoreline.

Style Summary

  • Premium Natural Blend: 75% lambswool and 25% silk combine natural warmth, softness and breathability with the refined character of a premium blended yarn.
  • Distinctive Speckled Texture: Contrasting silk neps are injected through the lambswool yarn, creating subtle flecks of colour and a richly textured surface that makes each shade particularly distinctive.
  • Timeless Heritage Character: The softly speckled yarn and traditional fisherman-inspired construction give the Helston an enduring look rooted in classic British knitwear.
  • Natural Warmth: Lambswool traps insulating air while remaining breathable, providing comfortable warmth without relying on synthetic fibres.
  • Maritime Detailing: The knitted “ladder of life” along the raglan armholes references traditional seafaring symbolism and adds subtle definition to the shoulders.
  • Comfortable Roll Neck: A generous ribbed roll neck provides additional warmth and can be adjusted naturally to suit the wearer.
  • Considered Finishing: Rolled edges, garter stitch and ribs at the cuffs and hem add texture while referencing the irregular movement of waves along the Cornish coast.

Merino Wool Yarn

Exceptionally fine and naturally intelligent, merino wool is prized for its ability to regulate temperature while remaining soft against the skin. Designed by nature to adapt, it provides warmth in cooler conditions and breathability when temperatures rise.

We source our chunky merino from Peru and our extrafine and superfine merino is supplied by industry favourites Zegna Baruffa (Est. 1850), Papi Fabio (Est. 1890) and Lanerossi (Est. 1817).
