100% Cotton Crew Neck Gansey Sweater

Inspired by the traditional gansey jumpers worn by fishermen during the 18th and 19th centuries, Solva is a modern interpretation crafted from 100% cotton. Named after the historic Pembrokeshire fishing village of Solva, whose name is thought to derive from an old Celtic word meaning "place of the sunlit estuary" or "muddy harbour", the design reflects Britain's rich maritime heritage while offering a relaxed, contemporary fit for everyday wear.

The body combines textured argyle patterns, cables and chevrons, reflecting the decorative knit structures traditionally used in gansey garments. Running across the shoulder is the symbolic "Ladder of Life" pattern, historically associated with the stages of life, the challenges and achievements of sailors, and the ladders used aboard fishing vessels. Finished with a rolled edge crew neck, side hem slits and a garter stitch welt inspired by seashore waves, Solva balances heritage detailing with modern comfort.
