"Great for the gym, or a run, warm yet light weight!"
Exceptionally fine and naturally intelligent, merino wool is prized for its ability to regulate temperature while remaining soft against the skin. Designed by nature to adapt, it provides warmth in cooler conditions and breathability when temperatures rise.
We source our chunky merino from Peru and our extrafine and superfine merino is supplied by industry favourites Zegna Baruffa (Est. 1850), Papi Fabio (Est. 1890) and Lanerossi (Est. 1817).
Naturally adapts to your body, keeping you warm or cool as needed.
Moisture-wicking fibres keep you fresh, dry, and comfortable.
Light yet warm, with natural strength and shape retention.
Ultra-fine fibres feel exceptionally soft against sensitive skin.
Requires less washing and resists creasing.
Renewable, biodegradable natural fibre.

"Great for the gym, or a run, warm yet light weight!"
"Great fit and super comfortable. I’m going to take them on my skiing holiday."
"Unfortunately a hole appeared in the armpit seam after first ware. This suggested too small a seam allowance. After discussion with Paul James, jumper returned for repair. this was done adequately but I was disappointed in the quality of the finish."
"The Mens Heavyweight Merino Activewear Training Top was just the ticket for the weather conditions that I was recently faced with in Iceland. It was a comfortable snug fit that wasn’t too tight or loose. Even though it is labelled as a heavyweight top, it too, wasn’t too heavy when wearing it and yet it functioned perfectly in sub zero temperatures as the base layer it is advertised as. In terms of the quality, this is made abundantly clear when you feel it against your skin. At no point did it chafe or itch whilst wearing it. All in all, I would recommend this base layer to anyone who will be contending with harsher weather conditions and has sensitive skin."
"A great bit of kit perfect for running in. Merino wool is perfect for this, highly breathable, quick drying and never gets smelly like synthetic fabrics. Cut is spot on, back ventilation is very well thought out, and the thumb loops on the sleeves are a great touch. One of many merino items I’ve purchased from Paul James. Would be great to see this long sleeve top complimented with a mens activewear merino short sleeved t-shirt for summer use. (currently only available as a women’s version…) Great company to deal with. I recommend Paul James and their products without hesitation - 5 Stars!"
"This top is my new go-to top. It is extremely well made, soft yet sturdy and, being merino, doesn’t pick up odours from strenuous activities. I bought one, liked it so much, I bought two more. I have been wearing SmartWool merino tops for years for my outdoor activities and I have to say this top outshines those, because of the knitting and the overall quality. I actually feel warm with this on, whereas the other ones keep you warm, this one actually feels warm when you’re not doing your activities. It must be with the weave and the quality of the wool. Outstanding!"
"Very pleased with the heavyweight merino activewear- I feel the cold when out jogging and these garments have really hit the mark. I usually wear man made fiber tee shirt or long sleeve as my base layer with one of my merino heavyweight on top and my track suit zipper and neck gaiter with my beanie. When indoors I don’t feel too hot and when I’m out I don’t feel cold. Other runners say you’ll be too hot but I never am. I highly recommend these tops as the other advantage if their damp from perspiration they don’t smell just hang them to air in the household and their good to go which saves laundry and stops your tops from laundering, this is another reason why like Merino so much. I have other Merino tee shirts and long sleeve tops from elsewhere and they don’t come anywhere near to Paul James Quality, so far everything I’ve bought has been top notch and made in Britain which is important to me for supporting British manufacturing and the air miles so thank you Paul James 👍🏻"
"It is lightweight and the quality is as expected."
"Great Quality and perfect for Hiking or running in colder conditions. Thumb loops are a nice touch for warm Palms."
"We all know that quality varies with Merino Wool products. In my experience Paul James does not compromise on quality - their products are excellent. Sure you pay a little more for the quality, but after wearing their garments for over a year they look and feel as good today as they did when I first bought them."
